PLAYER REGISTRATION: All players must be registered on their teams' roster before the tournament begins. Tournament officials may request proof of age at any time during the tournament, so coaches need to have it on hand at all times.  Any team or player determined by the event director to have falsified information will be dismissed from the tournament.

ROSTERS: All rosters are final upon the start of the team's first game.  Players may not be added once the first game has started.  NUMBER OF PLAYERS: Maximum roster is six players. Teams should play with 3 field players at one time, but can play with a minimum of 2 field players. There are no goalkeepers.  Players may only play on one team.

SUBSTITUTIONS: May occur at any dead ball situation on your possession.  If the team in possession makes a substitution, the other team may substitute as well.  Teams must get referee’s attention and enter/exit at midfield only.

EQUIPMENT: All players must wear shin guard or they will not be allowed to play.  Hard casts and jewelry are not allowed.  Home teams are responsible for providing game balls. (U6-U8 - Size 3, U9-U12 - Size 4, U13 and up – Size 5)

UNIFORMS: Teams should bring both a light and a dark jersey or use practice jerseys in case of a color conflict.  If both teams are wearing the same color uniform at game time, the visiting team should change jerseys.

FIELD DIMENSIONS:    U9 and up:  30 x 40 yard fields                U7 & U8:  20 x 30 yard fields

GOAL BOX: The goal box (8 feet wide by 6 feet long) is directly in front of the goal. No player may touch the ball within the goal box, however any player may move through the goal box. Any part of the ball or player's body on the line is considered in the goal box; the player is an extension of the box. If a defender touches the ball in the goal box, a penalty kick is awarded to the offensive team. If an offensive player touches the ball within the goal box, a goal kick is awarded to the defensive team. If the ball comes to a complete stop in the goal box, regardless of which team touched it last, a goal kick is awarded to the defensive team. The goals are 4 feet high by 6 feet wide.

GAME DURATION: The game shall consist of two10-minute halves separated by a two minute halftime. Teams who are behind by 5 goals may add an additional player until they have reduced the goal deficit to four goals. Games tied after regulation play shall end in a tie unless the game is a playoff game.  Playoff games ending in a tie will have a 3-minute Golden Goal period followed by a shootout if necessary.  There are no timeouts and the game clock does not stop in 3v3 games. The referee has the official time on the field and can take necessary action if he/she feels a team is delaying the game. Any player can be cautioned with a yellow card if it is deemed by the referee the player is wasting time.

We will have volunteers to help with ball retrieval which will cut down on game down time.

GOAL SCORING: A goal may only be scored from a touch (offensive or defensive) within the team’s offensive half of the field.  The ball must be completely on the offensive half of the field and cannot be touching the mid-line (Example: kick-off).  If a player in their defensive half kicks the ball across the midline and the ball hits another player (offensive or defensive) and the ball goes in the goal, a goal will be awarded.  If a ball is kicked from the defensive half and is not touched before the ball rests in the goal, a goal kick is awarded to the defensive team.

SCORING SYSTEM (IN POOL PLAY): Games will be scored according to the following:

3 points for a win                        1 point for a tie                           0 points for a loss

FORFEITS: A forfeit shall be scored as a 5-0 win for the team that is present.  This team will get 3 points for the win.

A team forfeiting two games during pool play or one game during playoffs will be removed from the tournament.

TIEBREAKERS: For teams tied in record, if one team forfeited a game, they are automatically considered the lower seed.  For teams tied in record where one team received a forfeit, games against the teams forfeiting are not counted when figuring the tiebreaker.

In pool play, ties are broken by:

1)  Head to head results between tied teams        2)  Goal difference in pool play games          3)  Playoff team shootout

PLAYOFF OVERTIME: Teams will have a 3 minute  "GOLDEN GOAL" overtime period.

A coin toss will decide kick-off direction.  The first team to score in overtime is the winner.

If no team scores in the 3 minute overtime, a winner shall be decided in a PK shootout with a coin toss to determine team kicking order.  The three players on the field at the end of the overtime period will participate in the PK shootout, alternating between teams until they all kick once. The team with the most goals after the first round will be considered the winner.

If the teams remain tied after round one of PK’s, the players on the bench will participate in a sudden death round, where one player from each team will kick until one team scores unanswered. No player may kick more than once until all have participated.

If a player has received a red card, they may not participate in the PK shootout.

NO OFFSIDES or SLIDE TACKLING IN 3-V-3 SOCCER – If a player is sliding, no contact is allowed with another player or a free kick shall be awarded.  Players are permitted to slide to save a ball from going out of bounds.

FIVE-YARD RULE: In all dead ball situations, defending players must stand at least five yards away from the ball. If the defensive player's goal area is closer than five yards, the ball shall be placed five yards from the goal area.

KICK-INS: The ball shall be kicked into play from the sideline instead of thrown in. The ball is considered in play when the ball is touched and moves one full rotation.

DIRECT/INDIRECT KICKS: All dead ball kicks (kick-ins, free kicks, kick-offs) are indirect with exception of corner and penalty kicks.

GOAL KICKS: May be taken from any point on the end line, but not in the goal box area.

KICK OFF: May be taken in any direction. You cannot score directly from a kick off (ball must be 100% over the midline to be considered on the offensive half of the field.)

HAND BALLS: Deliberate handling of the ball that denies a team of an obvious goal-scoring opportunity will result in:

  • A Penalty Kick (at the discretion of the referee)
  •  A yellow or red card given to the player committing the hand ball (at the discretion of the referee)

PENALTY KICKS: Shall be awarded if, in the referee's opinion, a scoring opportunity was nullified by the infraction (not necessarily resulting in a red card).  A PK is a direct kick taken from the center of the mid-line with all players behind the mid-line. If a goal is not scored, the defense obtains possession with a goal kick. Penalty kicks are not live balls.

PLAYER EJECTION (YELLOW/RED CARD):

Players receiving 2 Yellow cards in one game will result in a Red card.  If a player receives 3 Yellow cards during a tournament, they are suspended for their next game.

If a player receives a Red card during a game, the team must continue playing the game a player short.

Referees have the right to eject a player, coach or parent from the game for continual disobedience or as a result of an incident that warrants being sent off. Red carded players, coaches or parents must leave the immediate playing area. If a player or coach is red-carded they are suspended from the next game as well.  If the red carded person delays or refuses to leave, the game will be forfeited in favor of the opposing team, regardless of the score at the time of the incident.

SPORTSMANSHIP: Players, coaches and spectators are expected to act in the nature of good sportsmanship at all times. Abuse of the referees will not be tolerated. Any instance of such conduct will disqualify the responsible team from the event.

ALL PARTICIPANTS (OR THEIR COACH) MUST CARRY PROOF OF AGE (PLAYER CARD, DRIVERS LICENSE OR BIRTH CERTIFICATE.) SITUATIONS OR OCCURRENCES THAT THESE RULES DO NOT ADDRESS SHALL BE LEFT TO THE SOLE DISCRETION OF THE TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR.
